Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive movie review: Manish Paul's crazy COMIC TIMING is definitely worth your ticket price!

The sequel to the 2010 surprise hit Tere Bin Laden, that made a star of Ali Zafar is out this week. Let’s see if the film can match up to the level of its predecessor, or whether Manish Paul can fill in Ali’s shoes. Read on to find out…

What’s it about 

A follow up to the hugely successful Tere Bin Laden, the 2016 release has Manish Paul playing the role of an aspiring film maker who’s caught in an odd ball situation involving none other than fake Osama Bin Laden played by Pradhuman Singh. This time around the story revolves around a CIA agent (Sikander Kher) who needs to shoot the death sequence of Osama to show his American President. Along the way there are a series of some funny and some sort of forced gags to keep you entertained. Manish and Sikander shine in most of their scenes while the supporting cast tries to match up to their energy.

What’s hot 

Manish Paul shines in the lead role as the bumbling director and there is no denying his natural affinity for humor. We have seen him successfully host TV shows and make us laugh, but being part of a big film is a different ball game. Paul manages to make the most of the material given to him and uses his timing with Pradhuman to good use. Sikander Kher is brilliant as the CIA agent and the prosthetics and make up in the first half give his character an edge. His transition as a Hollywood producer in the second half is remarkable. Some of the best scenes in the film are between Paul and him. Pradhuman Singh as the fake Osama is as charming and funny as the last time. The writing is fresh and so is the premise. The actor who plays Barack Obama stands out in the ensemble because of his mimicry.

What’s not 

While the funny scenes are plenty, there are also moments that don’t take off, especially the track with local terrorist leader Khalil. Ali Zafar’s cameo also doesn’t do much to create any interest in the film. In fact it serves as a distraction from the main plot. The jokes and gags are at times repetitive and revolve around Osama and President’s scenes. The challenge was to rise above the brilliance of the first part and retain the essence of the plot. Unfortunately Dead or Alive is stuck somewhere in between.

What to do 

Watch it for Manish Paul. He is definitely worth more than the price of the admission ticket.
