Shah Rukh Khan being a COMPULSIVE LIAR, Ode to Blind Love – 7 hidden trends you didn’t notice in an Aditya Chopra film!

The reticent director turns 45 today.

It’s strange that for a man who directed one of the biggest love stories, or for the matter, biggest hits of all time, is so rarely seen. This is an industry where if your film performs only during the weekend, you brag about it as if it had broken the collections of Avatar, so such behaviour from the Chopra scion is inexplicable.

If it was not for the fact that Rani Mukerji did marry this man, and that he was clicked at the hospital where she had delivered their baby, Aditya Chopra could just have been a phantom for the public. the illustrious elder son of late and great Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra turns 46 today. He made his directorial debut with this ‘little-known’ film called Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, that starred a certain Mr Shah Rukh Khan and certain Mrs Devgn (then just Kajol). What it did at the box office was stuff legends are made of, and Maratha Mandir is still running shows of the film. After that he only made two more films, Mohabbatein and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Though they weren’t as huge a blockbuster as DDLJ, they both worked well at box office. Now he is working on Befikre, his first film without SRK in the lead, starring Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor.

Though Aditya Chopra likes to take it slow when it comes to direction, as the head of his production house YRF Films, he is razor sharp when it comes to creative decisions. Though YRF’s last film, FAN, didn’t work well, the buzz around their next, Sultan is tremendous!

On his birthday, instead of doing the usual best films shtick that we always do (the man has made only three films, and we all know which is the best among them), we decided to explore his films furthermore. On doing so, we realised that his films SHOCKINGLY have the below 7 common trends!

Shah Rukh Khan is in all his films…and he plays a compulsive liar!

Dilwale-Dulhania-Le-Jayenge-SRK

Yup, SRK might be charming in all of Adi’s movies, but what we failed to notice under that charm is a grinning face of a compulsive liar. In DDLJ, he was a college dropout who lied to the entire clan of his love interest’s, even deceiving a girl enamoured with him, so that he can win Simran (how he expected to do so, I had no clue!). In Mohabbatein, he lied about his actual identity (and probably even forged his personal records) so that he can get a job at Gurukul. In Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, he took an entirely different personality so that he can woo his wife! Now that’s creepy!

…but he gets rewarded for all his lies by the end of the film

Rab-ne-bana-di-jodi

In DDLJ, he gets away with the girl…In Mohabbatein he still retains his job and even wins the respect of his employer…in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, he wins his wife’s affections and goes to honeymoon in Japan with her! So see, kids…Lying is always beneficial, especially if you have a dimpled smile like Shah Rukh Khan!

The girl’s father is always a dictator who doesn’t care for his daughter’s wishes

In DDLJ, Bauji didn’t even ask for his daughter’s approval before he fixes his marriage with a family friend. Amitabh Bachchan in Mohabbatein would rather stick to his parampara than see his daughter’s happiness, even if it meant her death. While Anushka Sharma’s father had no qualms in giving her hand off to a complete stranger, who older to her by a decade, because he thinks she can’t survive alone after his death! Such confidence, and the poor girl was just mourning over the loss of her bf!

The lead characters love to take on complicated challenges (when there are simpler solutions)

Raj in DDLJ could have just sent his father, who is totally rich, and try convincing Bauji in asking for Simran’s hands. Instead he concocts this weird plan of behaving like some complete stranger and entering their household so that they are won over by him and get him married to Simran (which was never going to happen). Raj Aryan in Mohabbatein enters Gurukul as a (probably fake) teacher, channel in the spirit of Robin Williams from Dead Poets’ Society and mentors three boys to give in to their hormones. Just so that he can teach the arrogant headmaster a lesson. And the less said about Surinder Sahni’s double act to fool..I mean, woo his wife, the better!

No one in the film has ever heard of a background check!

Rab-ne-bana-di-jodi

You can bring a stranger into your house and make him mingle with the women, you can hire a teacher without checking his credentials, you can spend a lot of time with a stranger who acts so weird, and still not wonder why he is so similar to her hubby…You can fake yourself in the world of Aditya Chopra, without the fear of police checks!

He makes us believe that love is ‘blind’

Simran is willing to go for a guy she just met for a week, instead of her father’s conventional choice (the same guy who stole the bra from her bag). Aishwarya Rai plays a girl who commits suicide just because her father suspended the love of her life. And Anushka was already blind enough to not recogine her husband in that makeup, she even forgive him for fooling her by the end!

Wanna woo a girl? Learn a guitar or dancing!

The guitar strings in DDLJ is still potent enough to melt any girl’s hear. As for dancing, it plays a crucial part in both of Adi’s other films. In Rab Ne…, it was the main theme, with Suri even managing to dance and impress his wife in the climax. In Mohabbatein, the three couples came close to each other just by dancing!

We wish Aditya Chopra a very Happy Birthday and hope his Befikre will break new records!
