Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Karisma Kapoor, Rekha – 10 times B-Town beauties hit a purple patch!

With Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s purple lips becoming an Internet sensation, here’s a look at instances when the colour won hearts on celluloid

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan created a stir with her purple lip colour at Cannes. The actress who created an iconic look with purple in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam faced flak from fashion critics for her bold choice. Flamboyant, flirtatious and royal, purple is a hue that looks brilliant on screen (if worn in the right manner). Here is a look at instances when actresses shined in hues of purple.

Madhuri Dixit Nene in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun
She has given us zillions of style statements but the one that will be forever etched in our memory is the purple saree with a matching royal purple and gold backless blouse in the iconic Didi Tera Devar Deewana from Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. The outfit was also popular that even Barbie wore it. Anna Singh became the most celebrated designer of the decade post this number.

Karisma Kapoor in Dil Toh Pagal Hai
Dangerously short but chic, this is how we will remember Karisma Kapoor from the song, Bholi Si Surat Aankhon Mein Masti from Dil Toh Pagal Hai. The lady looked like a style diva in the high-end light orchid purple dress sported in the song.

Madhuri Dixit in Dil Toh Pagal Hai
The Bollywood divas salwar suits were a craze post the film. Every girl wanted to own a sheer salwar suit with strappy shoulders. Mads wore a gorgeous lavender chiffon suit in the scene where she goes to buy Valentine’s Day gifts for herself. She also wore a deep purple suit at the start of the Aa Re Re song as well.

Nagma in Yalgaar
The quintessential South siren, Nagma rocked the chiffon sarees that were synonymous with rain songs. Co-star Ravi Kishan once said how he would make sure that she wore chiffon in every film of theirs (Ahem). However, we are talking of the number Akhir Tumhe Aana Hain from Yalgaar where she is seen seducing a reluctant shirtless Sanjay Dutt. Circa 2016, some might find it tacky but there’s no doubt that it raised temperatures then.

Zeenat Aman in Heera Panna
Okay it was not pure purple but Zeenat flaunted a polka dotted bikini in hues of purple, electric blue and white with aplomb in the song Panna Ki Tamanna with Dev Anand. It was the first swimsuit outing of the original bikini babe.

Nanda in The Train
Remember the outfit worn by Nanda in the chartbuster Gulabi Aankhen Jo Teri Dekhi. The lady brought forth the flirtatiousness of the number in a body-hugging purple salwar suit with white lacy frills. The lady has been part of many memorable songs but this look is one of the best remembered.

Amrita Arora Ladak in Kambakht Ishq
In this highly forgettable film, the sight of Amrita in deep violet two-piece showing off a sun-kissed toned body was one of the high points.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
Long before Ash was trolled on Twitter for her purple lips, the lady gave Indian girls major shopping goals with her outfit in the hummable Chand Chupa Badal Main from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus. The lavender lehenga embellished with silver and diamond sequins was an absolute must-have. She also rocked a purple Ellie Saab gown in Cannes 2014, where she looked no less than a dreamy princess.

Rekha in Khoon Bhari Maang
Fans of the eternal diva know that she does nothing in half measures. The lady sported an ultra-glamorous look in her avenging angel avatar in the second half of the film. Rekha streaked her hair with purple hairspray for the same.

Raveena Tandon in Salaakhen
One of the hottest gals of the 90s, Raveena exuded a lot of oomph. The lady donned a light purple sari in the song Zubaan Pe Jo Nahi Aaye from the Sunny Deol starrer Salaakhen. It is not only the sari but Ravs’ sexy moves and cascading locks that up the sex appeal of the number.
