So how do you think will bang the golden statuette ?
Will this finally be Leo’s year? That’s what everyone wants to know…and we all secretly want that to happen as well!
But is he good enough to win it this year? Sure he has toiled a lot hard for his grimy role in The Revenant, but we have seen his better performances in films like The Aviator, The Wolf of Wall Street and The Departed. So will this be his year? Will other nominees give him a tough time?
Let’s rank the Best Actor nominees from this year’s list, based on their performances, ranking from the Worst to the Best…
Matt Damon in The Martian
Why he should get it: Everyone loved Matt Damon in the very loveable blockbuster of the year…everyone felt for him, as he struggles fictitiously to survive on Mars, science the shit out of stuff and root for him to return back to Earth…yeah! we all wished that and we are happy that he is nominated for the Oscars over Michael B Jordan in Creed and Michael Keaton in Spotlight. But let’s not keep our hopes too high…unless the Academy jury also hates disco music and totally agree with Matt here!
Why he won’t: Precisely for the same reason as above!
Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl
Why he should get it: Eddie is quite an inconsistent actor. In the same year that he gave an Oscar nominated performance, he also lost lot of fans by his super happy performance in Jupiter Ascending. The actor has proven to be a fave with the jury after beating everyone’s favourite nominee, Michael Keaton in The Birdman, and winning the Best Actor statuette!
Why he won’t: Having seen the film, it’s so easy to deduce that the performance is so Oscar-baity. Eddie was excellent in The Theory of Everything, and he deserved his Oscar there. But his Danish Girl is so superficial that we can’t help but root against him, thanks to an average screenplay and the fact that we loved Alicia Vikander over him. Also, the Academy Award are not known to award the same person twice.
Bryan Cranston in Trumbo
Why he should get it: This is a worthy follow up of Bryan Cranston’s career-making role in the cult Breaking Bad. The man is brilliant as the real-life screen writer accused of propagandizing Communist ideologies in their films. Unfortunately…
Why he won’t: …his film lets him down. Also his role is kinda low profile compared to the other two, especially the next one. So unless Oscar academy like to spring surprises on s, let’s say playing Walter White was Cranston’s crowning glory!
Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant
Why he should get it: He crawls…he grunts…he foams,…he spits…he eats raw fish and bison…all in the name of method acting! And if he still doesn’t get the golden statue this time, perhaps the only Oscar that Leo can only get will be the Special Lifetime Achievement award!
Why he won’t: While Leo has done his best in the role, that too with limited dialogue, this isn’t his best performance, unfortunately. That credit always is for his surprisingly not nominated performance in The Departed. Yet, because we love Leo so much, that’s why we are rooting for him. But deep from my heart, I rate the next guy as the better performer!
Michael Fassbender in Steve Jobs
Why he should get it: Eccentric. Brilliant. Applause Worthy. This is how you describe both Steve Jobs and the man who played him. Though he doesn’t exactly look like the late Apple CEO, Fassbender hasn’t made a wrong step playing one of the most iconic men of our generation. He was basically living in Job’s shoes, and Aaron Sorkin’s explosive script actually elevates his character, that we find him repelling as well as enigmatic as the same time!
“)}}(“datalayer”,”z5fd825ff-632c-4bf4-9b36-6e4cc3597ca1″,true, 1 , 1);
Why he won’t: …because there is too much noise over whether this will be Leo’s year, that people forget that even Michael has been nominated a couple of times at the Oscars and hasn’t won any….yet…
