Here's how Neerja will turn things around for Sonam Kapoor!

Sonam Kapoor‘s Neerja has touched hearts of thousands of people and the brave heart’s story has enlightened many people to go against their fear and fight against atrocities. Neerja Bhanot was just 23 years old when she helped save 359 people on board a hijacked plane and it seems she has also helped Sonam Kapoor receive the credit she actually deserves. Sonam Kapoor’s portrayal of Neerja Bahnot has been loved by one and all and many have said that she has given her career best performance. So, we got in touch with our trade expert and he explained to us how Neerja will help Sonam in realising her dreams.

When we asked if this was Sonam Kapoor’s best performance till date, exhibitor and distributor, Akshaye Rathi mentioned, “While it is right to give Sonam Kapoor credit for the fantastic performance that she’s delivered in this film, let’s not take away credit from the lot of other films where she has done a pretty good job, whether it is Khoobsurat, whether it is her first film Saawariya or all the others, she hasn’t done a bad job ever. But as they say nothing succeeds like success and because this film has done well, got all the appreciation and Sonam is getting the credit. Without taking away the credit from the work she has done from the past, I have to say that this is one of the best performances in her career till date and I think the appreciation that she is getting is well deserved for a film like Neerja.”

But, that’s not it. It seems that Neerja will turn things around for Sonam Kapoor. As Akshaye revealed, “In terms of the ability of drawing in the audience and win acclaim as a solo actress, Neerja will certainly change things around for her. But having said that, the film she did before this, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo turned things around for a lot of entities. Fox Star Studios after delivering a really long list of failures, earned some money and a Sonam Kapoor film made money. The turn around started subtly with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, but Neerja is the career changing film, that will change tracks for her and will turn things around for her. This film will be a landmark film in her career as an actress.”

However, Sonam has to be choosy now that she has struck the right chords. As Akshaye added, “Absolutely, but that just doesn’t go for her, it goes for every other actor and actress. If you look at Kangana Ranaut’s career, she had a successful Tanu Weds Manu Returns, but before that she had a Revolver Rani and after that she had a I Love NY and a Katti Batti, which weren’t half as successful as Tanu Weds Manu Returns. So whoever the star is, however big the star is things are pretty simple that every project is an individual project that will work on the merit of the content rather than the star power. Star power will get you an opening, but beyond that, beyond the first weekend it will be on the merit of the content. So it is not about Sonam Kapoor, but for any actor or actress, they should look at te scripts and stories carefully before saying yes to a film. Every project has to be chosen by the merit of the content.”
