Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut – meet 7 of Bollywood’s Powerpuff girls

Today’s Women’s Day, and it has never been important for us to celebrate the spirit of womanhood now than ever before, thanks to the frequent cases of molestation and rapes that’s been a bane to our society. The recent case of South actress Bhavana being molested in her own car is an example that in India neither are commoners nor celebs safe from the vile hands of perverts. However the true brave spirit of the actress made sure that the culprits were booked, and the police’s job was made easier. It’s brave women like Bhavana, that should be an example to many other downtrodden women in our country who should realise now is not the time to remain silent and encourage the perpetrators.

Coming to Bollywood, our actresses are often looked up as role models by many youngsters, and that’s why their every action and quote are often scrutinised minutely by everyone. Thankfully most of them have been able to conduct themselves pretty well in the public eye, and have done some inspiring work both on and off screen, be it with how they handled their career, social work or their own personal lives. Here are seven among those youth icon actresses…

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka-Chopra

She is a former Miss World, she is a National award winning actress, she is a singer and she is now a well known name in the Hollywood circuit (so much that they confuse Deepika with Priyanka, but not the other way round). She is also getting herself into producing regional cinema, even if she is not starring in them. It’s no small feat of being the main lead in an international TV series, and also land yourself a big role in a bigger Hollywood movie, Baywatch.

Kangana Ranaut

Kangana

There are only a few celebs who have the guts to come to Karan Johar’s show and tell him on the face that he promotes nepotism. That’s Kangana Ranaut for you. Sure, she is a Controversy’s Child, and can’t stop herself from falling into some kind of issue from time to time. But she is also one of the very few actresses who is a total outsider and yet has managed to reach the top without working with any of the big three Khans. And let’s not forget, she is a three time National award winner. Who among her generation of actresses can boast of that achievement?

Deepika Padukone

Deepika

Deepika Padukone has worked very hard to remove that tag – models can’t act. She may have had a great start with  Om Shanti Om, but even since that she was often criticised for being stilted actress. That all changed when she played the wild girl Veronica in Cocktail to perfection, and ever since then she has not put a foot wrong when it comes to her performances. She was also one of the best things in her Hollywood debut, xXx: Return of Xander Cage. But above all, she is one of the rare few Indian celebs who confessed she has gone into depression, and has come out of it successfully, now being a part of the initiative to help others in similar predicament.

Alia Bhatt

Alia-Deepika

Okay, let’s have a star kid in the list, after all not everyone turns out to be just wannabes. When Alia Bhatt was launched in Student of the Year, she received the least favourable reviews in comparison to her co-debutants, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra, making us think that she was just another star kid trying her luck in the industry. But then came Highway, and that was needed to show that Ali was a tremendous bundle of talent. From there on she went on to strength to strength with some incredible performances, especially last year, when she delivered fantabulous performances in Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi. She also came over the trolling questioning her IQ that followed her first Koffee With Karan episode, and made the jokes rarer with her clean up act.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya

Before Priyanka Chopra, it was upon Aishwarya Rai (then no Bachchan) to set the Bollywood dreams in Hollywood alight a few years back. Though it finally didn’t turn out to be much, she did the best with what she can do in movies like Bride and Prejudice, THe Pink Panther 2, Provoked. She came out of an abusive relationship with grace, she got married in a great family, and continued to do films even after being a mother, and she is still one of the most in-demand actresses in the industry. And we shouldn’t forget the many social initiatives she is a part of.

Sushmita Sen

Sushmita

Though she won the Miss Universe the same year as Aishwarya Rai won the Miss World, her Bollywood career hasn’t been commercially successful as latter’s, though some of her performances have been critically acclaimed. She is one of the rare actresses who has no qualms about hiding her relationships, and also belonging that domain where she doesn’t need a man to support her. She has also adopted two kids, even though she is single, not to mention her various charitable projects.

Vidya Balan

Vidya-balan

In an industry obsessed with zero size and impeccable dressing, Vidya Balan came up the top of the stardown solely through her performances, and despite not belonging to any star family. She doesn’t even mind taking on roles that goes against the homely image she has among her fans, like the role she in The Dirty Picture that won her a National award. Even after marriage she continues to act in movies that interests her skills.
