Suniel Shetty’s father Veerappa Shetty passed away on March 1. The family took part in the last rites, the next day.  The Shetty family today hosted a prayer meet in his memory. The family -Sunil, Mana, Athiya,  Ahan – wore the white as per Indian rituals and tradition. With folded hands they greeted everyone at their door, including the photographers present.


Many of Sunil’s close friends from the industry showed up at their residence to offer their condolences and pray for the deceased. Kajol, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan came and attended the prayer meet.

Also, Athiya Shetty has returned from London, skipping a few days of Mubarakan. Unfortunately, she could not join her family on the day of her grandfather’s funeral. She held responsibilities with poise when she was back. She posted on Instagram an old pic of herself with grandfather and wrote in the caption –  “And sometimes even a lifetime isn’t enough. Until we meet again thank you for being my grandfather. Hope you’re happy and at peace wherever you are. Love you Ajja, will miss you forever,”


Ahan Shetty was also there constantly by the side of his family, taking care of everything.


In an interview to HT in 2013, Suniel Shetty had called his father his real hero. He was present in Worli to launch his showroom in a building, he said he shared a special attachment with. He reminisced, “This is where my father, Veerappa Shetty, used to work. He used to clean plates here since he worked as a waiting boy at a restaurant. My father is my real hero. He started working at the age of nine. He used to sleep on flattened mustard sacks and used a rolled-up gunny bag as a pillow.”
