Hansal Mehta’s tribute to Rohith Vemula is HEART-WRENCHING – watch video!

Yeah, go on watch the narration of Rohith Vemula’s letter and you would know what we’re saying!

Student, politician Rohith Vemula’s last words before his unfortunate suicide in the Hyderabad University will surely touch anyone’s heart and tear you up.  This hard hitting letter attempts to evoke the basic principles of humanity which we have forgotten. Hansal Mehta, who gave us Aligarh, has made a video narrating the contents Rohith’s letter. It is both heart breaking and poignant.

It has been about two months since Rohith’s deaths we are still fighting over the same issues of caste discrimination. The government is as usual being its dismissive self and this is clearly a death knell on democracy and equal rights. Watch this video and you’ll know what we are talking about.

While talking about his attempt to create awareness and bring about justice to Rohith, he said, “We are currently in a time where showcasing myself as a filmmaker is irrelevant. The freedom and rights guaranteed by our constitution are being taken away from us by polarising forces. Rohith’s letter expresses the anguish of a nation at the threshold of a revolt against these forces.”

He also added, “Our freedom, rights, equality and aspirations are being trampled upon. We are being silenced into meek submission by an apathetic establishment. Our students are the only hope for resistance in these troubled times. My intention is to simply play Rohith’s letters as monologues and to provoke us to think about the perils of further polarisation. Thank you Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Rajkummar Rao, Swanand Kirkire, Ornub Gayan, Apurva M Asrani, Harshit Sharma, Alok Tripathi, Vipul Arora and all the wonderful friends who worked to make this small tribute possible.”
