And it has much to do with their wives…
The Delhi Government in January sent letters to Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Arbaz Khan, Sunny Leone and Govinda to refrain from doing Pan Masala ads as they have identified them as potent health risks. The letters stated that since they are role models they shouldn’t set wrong precedents for the impressionable minds of India. They were also requested to support the government’s anti-tobacco campaign. But it seems none of them paid much heed and so, the state government has come up with a unique idea to get heard. They have now sent letters to their wives Gauri Khan, Kajol, Malaika Arora Khan and Sunita Ahuja, Govinda’s wife.
Yes, you read right, They did send letters to the star wives so that they would be able to persuade them to not be a part of any pan masala ads. A daily used some of the excerpts from the letter. The one addressed to Gauri says, “It is an humble appeal to you for encouraging Shahrukh Khan not to participate in advertisements of pan masala in larger public health interest.” It further adds, “Earlier a letter was written to Shahrukh Khan urging him not to participate in such advertisements in public interest. Nonetheless we (Delhi government) have not received any response till date nor he has plugged doing such advertisements.” Their point is even if they don’t have nicotine or tobacco in them, the areca nuts (supari) which form a part of it can cause cancer, research has proved.
We hope their plea gets heard this time round.
