Ridiculous, is the word !
So, what is the censor board trying to hide? Aligarh, starring Manoj Bajpayee, Rajkummar Rao in lead roles, released today. Understandably it received rave reviews and a lot of adulation from masses as well critics across board. It is a poignant tale inspired from a real life incident in the life of a gay professor teaching in the Aligarh Muslim University. It is a poignant tale of living, loving and acceptance. Manoj Bajpayee’s heart wrenching performance and director Hansal Mehta’s sensitive treatment to the whole issue makes it a compelling watch.
Amidst this, an official copy by the censor board to the makers of the film has been leaked and it precisely gives you insights into what was cut from the movie. So what is it that our censor board doesn’t want to see? Looking at the copy here, you will see that though the story is inspired from an ‘original story’ to real idea. Also, the honourable chief Mr Pahlaj Nihalani has replaced the expletive ‘Bastard’ with a Hindi phrase, ‘Bhag Idhar Se’. Though they have retained the usage of word once, they have muted the cuss words ‘Bhenchod and Madarchod’ in most cases.
Funnily, they even replaced the visuals of Manoj’s character sleeping in court room with ‘approved’ ones. Whatever that means! The enlightened censor board also sharpened the font of the message promoting anti smoking at the start of the film!
