San Diego Comic -Con 2017 just concluded and I rue my luck that as a movie buff and superhero geek, I never got the opportunity to be present at the place where all the cool stuff was happening over the weekend. If you are a fan of either Marvel or DC or any of the trending TV shows, the comic convention gave access to all the entrants to some really fun stuff. And trailers as well! Some of the trailers that were shown at the convention were later uploaded online for the poor sods like us view and enjoy. But there were some other exciting footages that were shown at the convention that will not be shown to the public in the immediate future. Like for example, the much anticipated trailer of Avengers: Infinity War might only be shown to us after the release of Thor: Ragnarok (and makes sense too, since the movie will come only in May 2018). But that hasn’t stopped someone from posting a leaked trailer that Disney later took down. There were other footages too that we won’t see anytime soon like James Wan’s Aquaman, Marvel’s Ant-man and The Wasp and Black Panther (which perhaps might come out in a month).
But thankfully these below trailers were released soon, and we can’t tell how excited we were after seeing them…
Justice League
DC’s version of superhero assembly is still more style than terror, with less revelation of the villain (Steppenwolf)’s threat to Earth. Thanks to Wonder Woman’s success as a solo movie, she gets to have a bit more focus than the rest. Towards the end, there is a hint that Superman might return. But that’s the most known secret since we saw the climax of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Thor: Ragnarok
The Hulk can talketh! The new trailer of Thor’s third solo movie merges action, humour and some really terrific visuals to make an entertaining one. Cate Blanchett looks formidable as the villain of the piece, Hela, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie is simply badass. Loki is there too and it’s cool to see him team up with his estranged brother. But the Hulk can talketh!
Ready Player One
It’s amazing to see Steven Spielberg continue to push his limits as a film-maker trying different genres and advance film-making techniques even after more than four years of film-making. Ready Player One is Steven Spielberg going completely bonkers over our imagination with (over) doses of CGI and some OTT stunts.
The Defenders
As they get ready with Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel is also ready to bring together their street-cred Avengers with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist getting together for Netflix upcoming show. Though the solo shows of the heroes had that darker vibe, the collaborative show does have that welcome inclusion of humour that, thankfully doesn’t overcome its trademark identity of being a gritty superhero show.
Marvel’s Inhumans
If Defenders is Marvel’s small screen Avengers, then The Inhumans is their television counterpart of Guardians of the Galaxy. After all it does have a huge talking dog. Shot with IMAX cameras, the show looks to have some fantastic visuals, going by the trailer. Plus, there is Iwan Rheon doing family friendly Ramsay Bolton kind of villainy here.
Stranger Things 2
Set against the terrific musical cues of MJ’s Thriller with the late Vincent Price giving the narration, Strangers Things is making things look even stranger in the new trailer. There are enough references to Ghostbusters, Star Wars and other horror and iconic movies of the ’80s. And, yeah, Eleven is back!
Bright
Will Smith and an ogre (played by Joel Edgerton) tagged as buddy cops out to save a mgaic wand! That one line is enough to make us invested in this action fantasy movie, made by Netflix.
