Ever since a news channel found 1 lakh votes to pass the word intercourse in Jab Harry Met Sejal, everybody has been in a happy daze. You all might have seen the video where the CBFC chairman Pahlaj Nihalani was questioned by a journalist to respond over the fact that the stipulated number of people did vote to let the word intercourse pass. He was speechless, quite literally! However, when Shah Rukh Khan was questioned about the same, he only hoped that the same amount of people go to watch the movie. During the launch event of the song Beech Beech Mein, when the media asked the actor what were his thoughts on the votes, he stated, “They are doing their job, we are doing ours. Jaise logon ne vote kiya, waise he film dekhne aa jaaye. I don’t think the context of the film is something objectionable.”
He does make a good point there. While so many have voted to avoid censor board’s scissors land on the word intercourse, it would be interesting to see how many of them actually show up in the theatres when the movie releases! The ignorant souls who have no idea what we’re talking about, let us fill you up with some info. Right after the second mini trail of Jab Harry Met Sejal released, the CBFC chief, Pahlaj Nihalani went on a rant against it, completely taken aback by the use of the word ‘intercourse’. He was so upset with it that he challenged a new channel to bring in 1 lakh votes of audience, only then will the word be passed without any chopping. Well, like how Barney Stinson would say, the “Challenge accepted” by fans, quickly got the necessary votes!
Obviously, this left the chief searching for words as he was cornered for a reaction, by a journalist. It doesn’t end there though. He reasoned out his silence by saying, “They (Mirror Now) claim they’ve got 1 lakh voters to say they are fine with Shah Rukh talking about intercourse on screen. I don’t believe them. I think it’s Shah Rukh’s fans on Twitter endorsing the use of the word ‘intercourse’. He has millions of followers on Twitter. If among them a lakh say yes to his dialogue, what is the big deal? Show me a lakh of ticket-paying members of the audience approving of an actor with a family image talking so blatantly about sex, and then we’ll see.” Okay then…
