Shah Rukh Khan, who is currently busy promoting his upcoming movie Jab Harry Met Sejal, is also in the middle of shooting for his yet untitled movie with director, Aanand L Rai. This will be the first time that he is collaborating with Rai, who has previously made Raanjhanaa and the Tanu Weds Manu franchise. What’s interesting about the movie is that Shah Rukh Khan will be playing a vertically challenged person, i.e. a dwarf in the movie. He will be paired with two actresses in the movie – Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, making it a Jab Tak Hai Jaan reunion of sorts.
In a recent interview to popular journalist Rajeev Masand, Shah Rukh Khan had given quite some insights into Jab Harry Met Sejal and this untitled movie as well. Speaking of the latter, he revealed that there was no need for him to wear any kind of special apparatus to become a vertically challenged person in the movie, instead relying on refractive angles and multiple shots to achieve that effect – something they did with the Lord of the Ring series. So he is saved of the painstaking efforts that Kamal Haasan had to do when he was making Appu Raja. Shah Rukh Khan also revealed that they got to learn many new things while filming his scenes. However, there is a catch.
Because of the restrictive style of shooting the sequences, he will not be able to stretch his hands, as it would mar the effect of the camera angle. So don’t expect to see his signature pose in the movie. You can listen to him talk about it in the video below at around the 25-minute mark…
Shah Rukh Khan also revealed that he has taken references from Appu Raja and French film, Lautrec, based on the painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, who was also vertically challenged in real-life, to prep for the role. He also said that both Imtiaz Ali and Aanand L Rai wanted him to strip off all his trademark romantic moves and do something different, and yet be the most romantic person in the world.
While Jab Harry Met Sejal is scheduled to release on August 4, Aanand L Rai’s movie will release in December 2018.
