Here's why 24 could make or break Suriya's career as an actor!

The Vikram Kumar directorial could almost decide the fate of his career as an actor.

With the release of Suriya‘s next film 24 just around the corner, all fans are excited to catch their favourite actor on screen in a triple role no less. But they will also be a bit anxious because they know how important this film is for the actor. Suriya is a star who has not been appreciated as much he should have been. But then again, Suriya has chosen a few scripts over the last few years that he won’t be very proud of. So here is why we hope and pray that 24 is a big hit…

Lack of big hits in the last two years

Lets face it, Suriya is a great actor, but some movies that he has chosen will make you wonder what was he actually thinking. In particular, his last three films have not been big hits. Anjaan, which came out in 2014, was a big flop and was widely ridiculed by critics and audiences alike. His stardom suffered a big blow with this film.

This was followed by Maasu Engira Masilamani in a few months which was again not the best of choices. Although it was a complete masala entertainer, nobody was truly entertained and the film received negative response from the critics but was supported by the Suriya fans. Definitely an improvement from the Anjaan ridicule though.

Lastly, there was Pasanga 2 which came out late last year. It was a good offbeat film that was praised by the critics, but it was uncannily similar to Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par and failed to collect any major revenue at the box office. On the whole, both 2015 and 2016 have not been very great for Suriya.

Fierce competition

Kollywood is currently at its competitive best. First it was just considered to be Vijay and Ajith’s playground but now with Kabali, Rajinikanth has made a roaring entry and showed everyone that he can still kick ass. Not just that, many next gen actors are also making an impact of late such as Vikram Prabhu and Vijay Sethupathi. Not to mention actors like Dhanush and Vikram have big releases coming up. So frankly, Suriya cannot afford another failure or he will be overtaken.

The double role debacle

Everyone is aware by this point that Suriya will be playing a triple role in the film- a scientist, a killer and a watchmaker. But here is a little fact for you, after Vaaranam Aayiram in 2008, every film in which Suriya has played a double role has tanked at the box office. 7aum Arivu, Maatraan and Maasu failed to impress even though everyone appreciated Suriya’s effort and dedication. So the question is will Suriya manage to break this jinx with 24 and make a film where he is playing multiple roles a superhit?
