A legal action has been taken against the popular actor for making rather disturbing statements about women…
N Balkrishna, a fairly popular actor down south and a prominent political figure of Andhra Pradesh, made disgusting statements about women putting them in a derogatory light and he chose to enlighten masses with his views just when the International Women’s Day was round the corner. Now that’s irony personified, isn’t it?
Balkrishna, who is a Telugu Desam Party MLA of Hindupur constituency, dropped a few pearls of his wisdom and made this particular statement at launch of an upcoming film. Yes, it was a public event and he spoke in full awareness that his views will be telecast on national television. So. let’s cut the chase and concentrate on what he said exactly. “If I play eve-teasing roles, and just follow girls, my fans will not accept. Either a kiss should be given or they should be made pregnant. That’s all. We have to commit ourselves.” Yes, those were his exact words. After reading this, you won’t believe that you are living in 21st century and that a public can actually have the audacity to voice these chauvinistic, offensive opinion directly to press. It is nothing short of OUTRAGEOUS. These are the people who garner crazy fan following. People throng in queues to watch their oh-so-insightful films and worse, they also make policies and are into governance! Can it get more appalling than this?
N Balkrishna clearly does not filter this thoughts as he implies that men are supposed to chase women and get them pregnant. He does not think twice before making these cringe worthy statements because he does not think that they wrong in the first place. He has no concept of treating women EQUALLY like men. That also says a lot about the Telugu film industry on the whole. Remember Baahubali? Yeah, how can you forget that one. The mega blockbuster had the leading hero stripping his warrior princess heroine to a more ‘feminine’ attire and cutting down her rebelliousness nature to get her in ‘in line’. It was okay if Prabhas’s character went on to fight the bad boys and Tamanaah’s Avantika sat pretty waiting in shadows for her man to slay the villains and return victorious while she glorifies his masculinity.

Whoa, when will these people learn that is NOT OKAY to objectify women and force themselves on them. No, women do not like it when they are chased and eve teased. Contrary to their deranged belief we DO NOT LIKE being kissed forcefully and made pregnant by burly men soaked in patriarchy! Cinema and politics are both razor sharp tools to shape society. Both film stars and politicians therefore are the ones people look up to and hence should be extra careful of what they say , show and behave through their movies and public appearances. When will N Balkrishna and the likes learn this? Will this incident at least wake the masses up and take a stanch action against the patriarchy rooted deep in the psyche of the society? Let’s see. Only time will tell.
